Shopping is a central part of daily life and a highlight for many travelers visiting Korea. This lesson provides the essential vocabulary needed to navigate various retail environments, from a bustling traditional market or 시장 (si-jang) to a modern department store known as a 백화점 (baek-hwa-jeom). Mastering these terms allows you to identify items like 옷 (ot) for clothes or a 가방 (ga-bang) for a bag, and interact effectively with a salesperson or 점원 (jeom-won).

You will notice two helpful patterns in this vocabulary set. First, Korean frequently incorporates English loanwords into its shopping terminology.
