One fascinating pattern in the Thai calendar is the use of specific suffixes for months based on their length. Months with 31 days always end in -khom, such as January (มกราคม mák-kà-raa-khom) and October (ตุลาคม tù-laa-khom). In contrast, months with 30 days end in -yon, such as June (มิถุนายน mí-thù-naa-yon) and November (พฤศจิกายน phrɯ́t-sà-cì-kāa-yon). February (กุมภาพันธ์ kum-phāa-phan) is unique with its own suffix, reflecting its shorter length. This linguistic clue makes it easy to remember how many days are in a month just by hearing its name.

When discussing the weather, you will notice the word ฤดู (rɯ́-duu), which means season, acts as a prefix. To specify which season you mean, you simply add a descriptive word. For instance, Summer is ฤดูร้อน (rɯ́-duu-râawn), literally meaning hot season, while the Rainy Season is ฤดูฝน (rɯ́-duu-fǒn). You can also shift your timeframe by using the modifiers ที่แล้ว (thîi-lɛ́ɛw) for last or หน้า (nâa) for next.
